Mary is back, although she is very limited! Mary Elke is a farmer in Mendocino County's Anderson Valley. She started by growing organic apples and making Mary Elke Apple Juice. She planted grapes and make wine for her family and then for bartering in the nearby town of Boonville, hence the name. New Zealander Matt Evans is her winemaker, but Mary has unfortunately reduced the amount of wine she makes, finding it easier to sell most of her production to Domaine Mumm, Roederer Estate and a few other wineries. Rich fruit flavors combine with a slight spice element, some earthy minerality, and some mid-palate tannin to produce a flavorful style Pinot Noir that many modern drinkers of Pinot Noir prefer. The alcohol: 13.5%. Aged for 10 months in new and used oak barrels. Because of the reduced supply, Mary's wines are hard to get, but we've been lucky because we have supported her for so long.
